CHAPTER I
Introduction
Looking at the life of Jacob
in his struggle against
God, it is important to be seen
as a learning process for us to continue to walk
together with God.
It is a unique case
in the struggle against the
God of Jacob is:
Ø
God let
him win.
Ø
God came to him at night so that Jacob could not
see the face of God directly
so that Jacob did not experience death.
Ø
Jacob was a deceiver. He deceived
his brother Esau to
get the birthright
Ø
Groin beaten to dislocated Jacob
Ø
Changed Jacob's name to Israel,
which means wrestling with God.
Ø
Jacob was
chosen by God to carry on God's promise to Abraham and Isaac to become a great nation.
It is a unique fact happened
when Jacob wrestled with God. for, in this paper studied
biblical about "God's
Sovereignty Over Human Life"
by Jacob struggle
against God found in Genesis 32: 22-32. Discussion
of the exposition is not only discuss cases that occur in the text but
rather to try to assess the truth contained in the text in the theological-biblical and ends with the study of the theological-practical as input to
all of us to continue walking
with God sovereign
over our lives.
Biblical
Theological Studies About History Jacob (22-23)
By understanding the text and context Genesis 32: 22-32 then formulated the
theological-biblical study about God by focusing on the discussion of God is a
sovereign God in our lives.
Jacob ferrying his family and possessions (paragraph 22-24). Jacob woke up in the middle of the night and took his wife, children, children and all his possessions all of the crossings Jabbok.[1] This is done so that Jacob could pray to God alone.[2] It is also that we find in the Bible, leaders -tokoh great start from Abraham to Jesus is always alone to meet or talk to God. Jacob's experience tremendous fear when going to meet with his brother Esau because he feared being murdered by Esau (27: 41b). Jacob realized if no one can help him in the face of Esau, then the only way is to come and surrender to God completely.[3] This is done by Jacob so that he earned the grace of God so that God can change the hearts of Esau his brother be not keapdanya revenge and forgive him.

Jacob Wrestled With A Man (24b)
Many commentators who explain if men yan Jacob wrestled
with an angel till dawn, this information is provided in accordance with sound
Hosea 12: 5. Where Jacob
wrestled with the angel, Jacob was victorious. So
people who wrestled with Jacob likely is the "Angel of the Lord" (cf.. 16: 7 ff;
21:17; 22:11; 31:11; Hosea 12: 5), which is often compared to that of God
himself (cp. V 28.30 ;
Assignment 6: 12-14, 22; cf. Ex 3: 2).[4] Jacob
wrestled with a man, and Jacob did not budge at all, even these men can’t beat
Jacob. This
happens until dawn to dawn and the man begged him to let go. In
the struggle against this God, Jacob was allowed by God for the victory and God
will keep his promise to join or bless Jacob (28:15).
Joints Groin dislocated Jacob
Di Beat Up (25)
When the man saw that he could not defeat, he struck the socket of Jacob's
hip so that his hip was dislocated .... God
struck the socket of Jacob's hip as a reminder to Jacob mengandalakan not live
in his own strength, but must rely on God and live in interdependence to God
(vv. 24-32).[5]
In Genesis 32:10 "For I bring ...... only
this time my staff over Jordan, .. etc, Jacob recalled when he fled from Esau
and crossed the Jordan.[6] At
that time Jacob was very young so they can rely on themselves. Jacob
said previously I was in trouble but with the strength and tenacity of my work,
now I'm so blessed, I'm not a fugitive who do not have anything. Jacob
uses a cane when his thigh dislocated Jacob sticks no longer a symbol of
strength but as a crutch. Every
time he saw her walking stick and he remembers God.[7] He
gave a sign to him through Jacob's thigh was dislocated to continue to rely on
God in his life. God's
action hitting the groin so dysfunctional that it is a reminder to him that he
had successfully through a real struggle, and God allowed him to win. Jacob
understand that God has a personal process that transformed from its past
mistakes and bring into the new blessing.[8]
Ask Jacob Blessing (26)
In
the struggle until dawn the angel said to go and plead with Jacob let me go. It
is intended that Jacob could perform his job duties and continued on his way to
meet with Esau, but Jacob was on his stand and berserikeras to ask for
blessings. Here
is described how Jacob survive in earnest prayer request to obtain the blessing
of the living God and forgive any mistakes or sins that have been made by him
in the past.[9]
He was determined to take advantage of this opportunity as soon as possible and
do not want to lose the benefit of his victory. In
applying these blessings he will realize his humiliation, though it appears he
won against God.[10]
He realized that the person he was wrestling with God until he asked of God's
grace is what was promised by God to him while he was in Bethel.
Jacob's Name Was Changed To
Israel (27-28)
Jacob's name means it is an imposter changed to Israel,
which means "he struggles with God".[11] The
name Jacob was given by his parents when he was born because Jacob held the
heel of Esau (25:26). When
Jacob asked for the blessing of God, God asked him about his name. Jacob
told his name with honest and God knew that Jacob said to be honest and give a
new name that is Israel so that no one else to call him as a fraud.[12] Jacob's
name was changed because the name does not show anything good is not even a
blessing at all.[13]
God knew that the name does not bring God's blessing to Jacob until turning it
into a means of winning over Israel that God appeared as a human being (God and
man).[14] And
God saw that Jacob wrestled earnestly with him, He let Jacob win.[15]
Getting Jacob Blessing (29)
Jacob's wrestling with God all night cause the blessing of God in his life.
Since
then Jacob knew that his life was totally dependent on God. The
victory achieved by Jacob can also be obtained in the same manner by which
Jacob wrestled in prayer to God.[16] A
big thanks that God gave Jacob not associated with response to a request to be
released from his evil plans that Esau Jacob
thought, but rather the fulfillment of God's promise to make him a great
nation.[17] He
asked to be informed of that person's name, this indicates that God does not
always answer the questions we want to satisfy our curiosity.[18]
Jacob Named The Place Peniel (30)
According to M. Tacoy Selvester, M.Div: Peniel means in
Hebrew is "see God". This
location is at the side of the Jordan River when Jacob met with God.[19] This
is where Jacob realized when it was blessed by God that he was face to face
with God, and he survived. For
in the tradition of Israel, everyone who met directly with God they would die
(Exodus 33:20). This
place did Jacob realize God so loved that he be allowed to live.
I
saw him the Rising Sun (31-32)
When Jacob became aware then he walked through Pniel and
appeared to sunrise, when he passed Peniel; and he limped because of his
thigh. Sunrise
provides a description of Jacob that there is always hope that a new given him
by God. The
rising sun signifies faithfulness to Jacob that God will always be new to him
at any time. God
will never cease to continue to participate in the life of Jacob. Until
now, the people of Israel do not eat meat that covers hip socket because God
has given a sign to Jacob so he would walk the walk with God
Practical Theological Studies
Practical Theological Studies
Based on the understanding of the biblical-theological
study of God's sovereign. The
built-practical theological implications that focused on the existence of
believers.[20]
In the understanding of God's sovereignty over the lives of believers. Separating
Yourself to Pray For
This is done by Jacob when experiencing tremendous fear was that he decided to come alone and on foot to apply for participation God as God had promised him. It take across all its including his family so he could focus on meditating on God who is sovereign over human life that believes in him. We also need to isolate yourself or need to give special time to talk to God through prayer. This we should do every day so that we can know what God wants to say to us each day. Through prayer we can also build a deeper relationship with God.
Struggling With Seriousness Heart.

Struggling With Seriousness Heart.
If we look at verse 24-29 how Jacob wrestled with God, he
realized that he must win the heart of God for the blessings that God had
promised him. Appointments
are preferred by Jacob not only it is safe from his brother Esau, but he begged
God to keep his promise to make his descendants a great nation or as God's
chosen people. God
constantly provides a way to give his grace to those who lean on him.[21]
When the problem was heavy in us began to feel weak, with sincerity, give us in
prayer, for God is with His blessings waiting for us. Let God Work In Yourself.
God always has a wonderful plan for mankind. However,
if people do not make at least the recognition that it is important to let God
work in his life, then God acted unfairly if he acts to resist and not give
grace to God.[22]
In Isaiah 55: 8 Sound: Why not plan my thoughts, your ways my ways Buana, saith
the LORD. This
proves that God has provided a wonderful plan for our lives and live how we
give ourselves and allow God to work on ourselves. If
it is we do in our lives is not impossible God will make everything we do. We
must be prepared to subordinate our own desires by giving up all things and our
worries to God, so God help us in a way desired by God. And
when there are challenges that we face, we will deal with it together with God.
Conclusion
Jacob is the one chosen by God to continue His promise to
Abraham and Isaac to become a great nation. But
in the course of his life he had doubts about it because he had cheated his
brother to obtain the birthright. Jacob
mangalami tremendous fear come to God for forgiveness and participation, and
ask God to God remains faithful to help him in the face of every trial that
they are facing.
God came to Jacob, when Jacob was at the crossing of the
Jabbok, then Jacob experienced tremendous struggle in which he feared would be
killed by his brother Esau. Jacob
could isolate themselves to ask for help from God. He
was willing to wrestle with God in prayer for a blessing from God. God
saw Jacob's sincerity that gives the whole life to God until God allows it to
be a winner in the struggle. God changed Jacob's name to
Israel. Jacob
joined by God throughout his life when he walked together with God and
committed his life to God.
